One Tree Hill is a series related to the incidents that take place in the state of North Carolina in a fictional town called Tree Hill. This series is shown on WB. The struggle for prominence, jealousy, rivalry between two half brothers, agonies of a single mother, love of two talented players for the same girl, overall teenage emotions are the subject matter of this series.
A school level basketball player Dan Scott is in love with a girl in the school called Karen. Their passion makes Karen pregnant. But instead of supporting her Dan moves out selfishly from the town to a college with a basketball scholarship. Karen gives birth to a boy and names him Lucas. Dan's basketball career fails and he returns to the town to start a car business. He marries his college sweetheart Deb. Deb gives birth to Dan's second son Nathan Scott.
Both the half brothers carry the legacy of their father and become good players in basketball. The main difference is, Nathan used to play in the school and Lucas was the master in the streets. Peyton Sawyer is the love interest of Nathan, who is a pretty blonde cheerleader of the school. But Peyton heart goes to Lucas as she is well aware about the mental agony of a child of a single parent, as she had lost her mother at a very early age. Lucas starts to get attracted towards Peyton. Their closeness increases the tension between Nathan and Lucas.
One day Lucas's talent in basketball was discovered by the basketball coach of the school Whitey. He readily offers Lucas to join the school which is turned down by him. When Dan left Karen then Keith, Dan's elder brother looked after her and now he has become like a father figure to Lucas. Actually from the very beginning Keith was in love with Karen but was unable to tell her. Keith has a garage and Lucas uses to work there.
Nathan challenges Lucas to a one-on-one game with a specific condition. If he wins then Lucas has to withdraw from the school basketball team. Lucas didn't accept the challenge. But later on he changes his mind and places his condition to Nathan that if he wins then he will get Peyton.
In the first big match of his life Lucas couldn't see his mother among the audience. He plays very bad with a broken heart. Envious Nathan then tells Peyton about how bad a player Lucas is. The very next day Lucas and Nathan had a fight at school. Lucas decides to quit the school team with a disturbed mind but his mother explains that why she was absent on the match day. She wanted to avoid Dan. Karen and Lucas's friend Jake influenced him not to quit the school team. On the next game Lucas performed superbly. Dan and Nathan got enraged and Nathan took some mean method to stop Lucas but he failed miserably.
One Tree Hill is the creation of Mark Schwahn who can understand the pulse of the young generation very much and gifted them with something they can relate to.
