The comparative study on Minimum Data Set of Electronic Health Record among selected countries
Introduction
Electronic health record describes the comprehensive patient record from 'cradle to grave' with all facets of care available from all health care providers. Moreover, EHR adoption is seen as a vehicle for high quality care This paper reviews the research literature on electronic health record (EHR) minimum data set . The aim is to find out (1) what demographic data set of electronic health records are needed , (2) what clinical data set of electronic health records are needed, (3) what financial data set of electronic health records are needed.
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was performed to survey the minimum data set recommended for content of electronic health records in the initiator countries such as U.S.A, England, and Newzealand and compared with Iran. Data was collected via four electronic databases: Pub med/Medline, Elsevier, and Springer .Findings were expressed with comparative features via content analysis .
Results: A few reviewed papers offered descriptions of the content of EHR. In Iran, there was proposed minimum data set for electronic health record as well as selected countries in this research; however EHR system has not been implemented any region in Iran.
Conclusion
We suggest identifying the final data set to better implementing for Iran is necessary. Also Data items such as demographic, clinical and financial should be included in HER systems and further research and studies projects by focusing on the content of EHRs are needed.
